{"id":520,"date":"2024-01-27T15:53:04","date_gmt":"2024-01-27T21:53:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/excal.design\/?p=520"},"modified":"2024-09-30T14:52:10","modified_gmt":"2024-09-30T19:52:10","slug":"branding-communication-and-design-bcd-series-part-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/excal.design\/index.php\/branding-communication-and-design-bcd-series-part-3\/","title":{"rendered":"Branding, Communication &#038; Design: Part III"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"s6\"><strong><span class=\"s7\">BC<\/span><span class=\"s7\">&amp;<\/span><\/strong><span class=\"s7\"><strong>D Series is a three-part series<\/strong> that <\/span><span class=\"s7\">will explore<\/span><span class=\"s7\"> the basic principles for effective branding through communication and design. <\/span><span class=\"s7\">Part-1 <\/span><span class=\"s7\">of this series <\/span><span class=\"s7\">explored the fundamental relationship between branding, communication and design<\/span><span class=\"s7\">. <\/span><span class=\"s7\">Part-2 <\/span><span class=\"s7\">explored<\/span> <span class=\"s7\">the basic principles of communication and their applications<\/span><span class=\"s7\"> in designing brands<\/span><span class=\"s7\">.<\/span> <span class=\"s8\">Part-3 will explore the underlining role of a communication designer in the process of designing brands.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><\/h4>\n<h4><span class=\"s9\">Communication Design<\/span><\/h4>\n<p class=\"s6\"><span class=\"s9\">Communication design<\/span><span class=\"s9\">\u00a0entails the strategies involved <\/span><span class=\"s9\">to<\/span><span class=\"s9\"> express <\/span><span class=\"s10\">brand information<\/span> <span class=\"s9\">primarily <\/span><span class=\"s9\">through visual design.<\/span> <span class=\"s9\">For years, g<\/span><span class=\"s9\">raphic design was <\/span><span class=\"s9\">the only term used to express visual design. Back in the day, the term e<\/span><span class=\"s9\">ncompass<\/span><span class=\"s9\">ed<\/span><span class=\"s9\"> the entire field of usi<\/span><span class=\"s9\">ng visuals to deliver a message<\/span><span class=\"s9\"> or <\/span><span class=\"s9\">even <\/span><span class=\"s9\">discuss <\/span><span class=\"s9\">specific<\/span><span class=\"s9\"> part<\/span><span class=\"s9\">s<\/span><span class=\"s9\"> of design.<\/span><span class=\"s11\"> Communication design <\/span><span class=\"s11\">takes things a step further with a <\/span><span class=\"s11\">more <\/span><span class=\"s11\">holistic approach of <\/span><span class=\"s11\">incorporat<\/span><span class=\"s11\">ing<\/span><span class=\"s11\"> elements of graphic design. It takes into consideration<\/span><span class=\"s11\">\u00a0the way people understand visuals. Communication designers therefore have the <\/span><span class=\"s11\">bigger<\/span><span class=\"s11\"> responsibility of developing relationships between their audience and the creatives.\u00a0 Therefore, the message being communicated <\/span><span class=\"s11\">is as important as creating a strategy to engage the relevant target groups.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><\/h4>\n<h4>Storytelling<\/h4>\n<p class=\"s6\"><span class=\"s11\">Brands<\/span> <span class=\"s11\">are always intending to<\/span><span class=\"s11\"> develop strong relationships with <\/span><span class=\"s11\">their target consumer by<\/span><span class=\"s11\"> establish<\/span><span class=\"s11\">ing<\/span><span class=\"s11\"> a unique identity <\/span><span class=\"s11\">so as to<\/span><span class=\"s11\"> stand out from their competitors. <\/span><span class=\"s11\">The<\/span><span class=\"s11\"> ability to get noticed by more people leads to a more profitable business<\/span><span class=\"s11\"> for the <\/span><span class=\"s11\">brand<\/span><span class=\"s11\">. C<\/span><span class=\"s11\">ommunication designer<\/span><span class=\"s11\">s<\/span><span class=\"s11\"> can <\/span><span class=\"s11\">become an asset to a<\/span><span class=\"s11\">ny<\/span> <span class=\"s11\">brand<\/span><span class=\"s11\"> by <\/span><span class=\"s11\">showcas<\/span><span class=\"s11\">ing<\/span><span class=\"s11\"> the relationship between <\/span><span class=\"s11\">branding and design \u2013 <\/span><span class=\"s11\">between <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/vimeo.com\/558704535\/9ae6803a64\"><span class=\"s11\">storytelling and <\/span><span class=\"s11\">visuals.<\/span><\/a><span class=\"s11\"> And this becomes <\/span><span class=\"s9\">the real definition of communication design<\/span> <span class=\"s11\">and <\/span><span class=\"s11\">the cornerstone <\/span><span class=\"s9\">for how communication designers think about visuals. The job of communication designers isn\u2019t just about the craft of creating stunning <\/span><span class=\"s9\">visuals<\/span><span class=\"s9\">, but about realizing the <\/span><span class=\"s9\">communicative power of<\/span><span class=\"s9\"> the<\/span><span class=\"s9\">se<\/span><span class=\"s9\"> visuals and utilizing th<\/span><span class=\"s9\">is<\/span><span class=\"s9\"> power to its fullest extent.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><\/h4>\n<h4>Brand Image<\/h4>\n<p class=\"s6\"><span class=\"s11\">C<\/span><span class=\"s9\">ommunication design<\/span><span class=\"s9\">ers<\/span><span class=\"s9\"> may work in <\/span><span class=\"s9\">myriad <\/span><span class=\"s9\">fields <\/span><span class=\"s9\">such as<\/span><span class=\"s9\"> advertising, <\/span><span class=\"s9\">branding, <\/span><span class=\"s9\">or app <\/span><span class=\"s9\">and web <\/span><span class=\"s9\">design<\/span><span class=\"s9\">ing<\/span><span class=\"s9\">. <\/span><span class=\"s9\">While <\/span><span class=\"s9\">graphic designer<\/span><span class=\"s9\">s are <\/span><span class=\"s9\">hired to handle <\/span><span class=\"s10\">one visual element of the brand<\/span><span class=\"s9\">, communication designer<\/span><span class=\"s9\">s are<\/span><span class=\"s9\"> hired <\/span><span class=\"s9\">to handle<\/span><span class=\"s9\"> both <\/span><span class=\"s9\">the <\/span><span class=\"s9\">creat<\/span><span class=\"s9\">i<\/span><span class=\"s9\">on of<\/span><span class=\"s9\"> visuals and communicati<\/span><span class=\"s9\">on of<\/span> <span class=\"s10\">the brand\u2019s<\/span> <span class=\"s9\">message to <\/span><span class=\"s9\">people<\/span><span class=\"s9\">. <\/span><span class=\"s9\">Communication designers are expected to possess the necessary <\/span><span class=\"s11\">creative<\/span><span class=\"s11\">,<\/span> <span class=\"s11\">professional <\/span><span class=\"s11\">and technical skills<\/span> <span class=\"s9\">to<\/span><span class=\"s9\"> see the whole picture of <\/span><span class=\"s9\">a <\/span><span class=\"s9\">branding<\/span><span class=\"s9\"> campaign from start to finish.<\/span> <span class=\"s11\">Therefore, a<\/span><span class=\"s11\"> communication designer understands how <\/span><span class=\"s11\">every design choice <\/span><span class=\"s11\">f<\/span><span class=\"s11\">rom color to font to language<\/span> <span class=\"s11\">to <\/span><span class=\"s11\">la<\/span><span class=\"s11\">yout<\/span><span class=\"s11\"> will make<\/span><span class=\"s11\"> an impact on\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s11\">the brand\u2019s\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s11\">image<\/span><span class=\"s11\"> in the market<\/span><span class=\"s11\">, and <\/span><span class=\"s11\">utilize<\/span><span class=\"s11\">s <\/span><span class=\"s11\">strategic<\/span><span class=\"s12\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s9\">business<\/span><span class=\"s12\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s11\">thinking<\/span> <span class=\"s11\">to convey <\/span><span class=\"s11\">the specifically desired<\/span> <span class=\"s11\">image<\/span><span class=\"s11\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s6\"><span class=\"s11\">The process of communication design involves <\/span><span class=\"s11\">strategic<\/span><span class=\"s11\"> thinking<\/span><span class=\"s11\"> in design and marketing terms, in order to establish credibility <\/span><span class=\"s11\">for the brand <\/span><span class=\"s11\">and influence <\/span><span class=\"s11\">people<\/span><span class=\"s11\"> through the communication.<\/span> <span class=\"s11\">Communications designers translate ideas and information<\/span> <span class=\"s11\">into visuals\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s11\">for attracting, inspir<\/span><span class=\"s11\">ing<\/span> <span class=\"s11\">and motivat<\/span><span class=\"s11\">ing<\/span><span class=\"s11\"> people with a view to<\/span><span class=\"s11\">wards<\/span><span class=\"s11\"> making a favorable impact.
